Since the criminalisation of cannabis in 1925, the war on “weed” has been a bit of a disaster. Whilst it is still perfectly acceptable in 2015 to go down the pub, get fucked on Jager Bombs and end the night fighting and pissing in the street, the governments somewhat misdirected priorities appear to be banging up “Billy”, who spends his nights smoking a natural herb, watching family guy and eating lots of cookies before falling asleep with dribble on his chin…
I’ll admit I used to smoke weed when I was younger, but as time went on the stuff just got so strong that I started to randomly twitch and get increasingly paranoid, the mellow and chilled out giggly high that I had first experienced – turned into a less than desirable twitchy slur fest and I soon decided weed wasn’t for me…
What I did notice though at the time I was smoking it occasionally, is that whilst I was full of energy, many of my friends who would smoke it regularly, were slowly turning into human vegetables.
This is the only “issue” that I have with cannabis, I don’t believe it is a danger to society and I certainly don’t believe it is anymore damaging to your health than a cigarette, I just think that whoever gets into a habit of smoking it for long periods, basically lose their personalities and become recluse, but who am I to tell someone how they should live their lives, if they want to spent the rest of their days in a room with the curtains closed eating cold pizza, go for it.
It now turns out though that all this time we have been spending millions of pounds fighting a losing battle against the war on weed, it finally comes out from scientists, what hippies and conspiracy theorists have been saying all along, that this natural plant is actually “beneficial” to your health and can help block key blood vessels needed by tumours to grow. A health researcher on the US government’s Cancer.org website claimed:
“Studies in mice and rats have shown that cannabinoids may inhibit tumour growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells. “A laboratory study of delta-9-THC in hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) cells showed that it damaged or killed the cancer cells. The same study of delta-9-THC in mouse models of liver cancer showed that it had antitumor effects.”
I have always believed that providing you do not harm anyone, what you do with your body should not be legislated, and lets be honest legalising cannabis would take a huge weight off the police force who probably have more important things to do, at the same time it would raise huge amounts of money in taxes whilst ensuring the trade is regulated?
Money made from the taxes can then be put back into helping addicts on harder drugs come clean and everyone is happy…! This would seem such a simple solution and as has already been proven in Washington since cannabis was legalised there has been a decrease in violent crime, no increase in youth marijuana use or traffic fatalities and a Massive Drop in Marijuana Arrests. Who can argue with the evidence?
