With the recent hacking of Ashley Madison, where up to 32 million users had their personal details released online, it’s obvious that the temptation to have an extra-marital affair is more of a widespread problem than many predicted.
Where previously, many cheating partners were able to cover their illicit activities returning home after a dirty weekend away by simply washing off the lipstick marks with a wet shammy, now there are private detection agencies available for those that have genuine concerns and want to confirm their suspicions once and for all.
Leon Hart is a private detective and Managing Director from Intime Investigations Ltd, one of the UK’s leading detection agencies, and he is tasked with exposing cheating partners, and delivering “bad news” to an ever growing list of global clients. With 15 years experience in the business, this is what he had to say about the job.
What made you decide to be a private investigator?
I started off within the loss prevention sector and then progressed to being a plain clothed operative for various companies investigating theft and fraud. I also worked as a door supervisor for 6yrs before being asked to carry out plain clothed observations in various nightclubs in London and Essex which involved carrying out test purchasing on staff and infiltrating drug dealing within the clubs…
I then gained employment as an in-house Fraud Investigator at Harrods where I remained for 9yrs, before moving onto personal injury claim surveillance and close protection for an International company before setting up Intime Investigations Ltd after seeing a niche in the market.
What is the first thing you do when someone comes to you and says, “I think my partner is cheating?”
How do they know? what is making them suspicious? Is there any set routine? Any days/ nights that are unaccountable for?
Are people suspicions normally correct when they believe they are being cheated on?
Yes, 9/10 times they are correct, there are various signs that their partner may be cheating, here are some of them: Hiding the phone/ mobile bill, spending a lot of time on their PC, especially late at night, is their mobile phone suddenly being treated like their best friend? , changes in sex drive and sexual behaviour?, mileage on the car is higher than usual and can’t be explained, etc etc…
What evidence do you consider proof of cheating?
The most useful tool available to us is surveillance as we would supply reports, photographs and video footage of any form infidelity showing any signs of affection between the subject and the other person.
What lengths have you gone to, to get evidence of infidelity?
Has anyone ever been impossible to trace?
